Earlier this month, we sent a request to the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India for the protection of women who choose compassion as a way of life because in our crime infested society, men subject our tribe to criminal intimidation and mental harassment.

To,
Smt. Annpurna Devi,
Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child
Development, Government of India
Ministry of Women and Child Development,

Respected madam,
Sub: Compassionate women
subjected to criminal
intimidation and mental harassment pan-India
I am writing to you with hope on behalf of all the
compassionate women of India. Although compassion is enshrined in our
Constitution as a Fundamental Duty, we are subjected to constant mental
harassment and criminal intimidation when performing this duty. The welfare
of animals in the community is deeply intertwined with the welfare of us humans
too because that is how co-existence and social harmony are maintained between
all forms of life.
For this selfless service, we daily put our safety
at risk. There are random men who take pictures/videos, men who come and harass
with dire consequences and we women remain the helpless victims because the
police more often than not sides with the accused. The strength of miscreants
and wrongdoers outnumbers women like me and even supersede the law because of
which we continue to suffer. This is a pan-India trend.
I take this opportunity to request your
intervention in all matters concerning the safety of compassionate women and
young girls across India because we live in fear in a crime infested society
and injustice only makes us more vulnerable to harm. We are seldom given the
protection we deserve. It is deeply worrisome. Sadly, the worth of a woman
is only given due importance when something untoward happens or when she is
gone.
I sincerely hope we will be supported by the system
because we are worthy and deserving of justice and not be punished and made to
suffer for choosing compassion as a way of life.
Please help establish the safety of our tribe.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Kuhu Roy
