Some losses pain more
because the death was unexpected and it becomes far worse if the death was
brutal. Junior Arjun's departure is precisely that because it has also opened
past unhealed wounds.
Jr. Arjun came into this world because the Animal
Birth Control Programme in Baroda is run by a mafia; the Municipal Corporation
and the AWO nexus. Jr. Arjun's mother, Laali's ear was clipped, but she was not
sterilised. The tiny furball was full of affection even for those who despised
his existence. We humans really do not deserve dogs. He grew up to a such a
handsome dog with a heart of gold. He would climb onto me whenever we met
occasionally. Maa was a constant in his life, ever since he was born.
Some places are way too evil. The area he resided
in has stinking rich residents but as stinking dirty hearts that lacked
compassion and empathy. I have forgotten the number of times Maa has saved him
and his brood from being removed. Maa broke down badly when she learned about
Jr. Arjun. She hasn't met any of her kids ever since she had the accident and
then the emergency surgery four months ago. She still has some milestones to
achieve before she can step out for the rounds. I didn't cry perhaps because
the anger was far more overwhelming than grief. But, I did while writing, my
only means of catharsis in a life where I have to see deaths day after day and
yet put up a brave face everyday. It is tough.
But, far more tough is digesting the dog's death
Jr. Arjun had. That full of life dog deserved better. His loss brought back the
night Christopher howled in pain to death, Margaret's helplessness when she
succumbed to internal injuries, Handsome, who was to come home but was mowed
down by a doctor although he had seen him sitting under his car, Karappi's
helplessness, Kabaddi, who splashed blood and had looked at me helplessly as to
what was happening to him, Adam, whose life was sucked out in a hit and many
more. This pain is endless, they all are gone, but I still live those horror
moments and that is what the Bridging Rainbows Foundation's
Give Animals a Brake campaign is born out of. To change the status quo, no
matter how lonely the journey or how tough the ride be.
This campaign needs doers. If you feel the pain
