Police inaction regarding violations of Animal Birth Control
Rules, 2023, has long been one of the major bottlenecks why malpractices
continue unabated, be it the AWOs that tweak the SOP or the people who hate
strays and take the law into their own hands. There is no fear of law as the
police seldom take any action in this matter.
In light of recent events, when these violations
have become even more pronounced, we await a reply from the authorities, with
much hope. The Union Home Ministry was very kind to send a directive to the
Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, who then issued a communication to
the Secretary, Animal Welfare Board of India, placing our concerns regarding,
'Police Inaction Regarding Violation of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023
kills the mission of a rabies free India.'
We believe that the Animal Birth Control Programme
will only succeed when all the local stakeholders, the pieces that complete the
jigsaw Puzzle of the ABC Programme, will join hands.
