Imagine a dog named Kabaddi. He had an athletic personality and moves which is why he got that name. While Handsome would trot like a horse in joy, Kabaddi would whistle and run in his sporty style. It is a pleasure watching those rare moments of joy in a stray dog's life, but isn't that always jinxed?

On a scorching summer afternoon in 2012, a dog fitting Kabaddi's description was run down by a car when he was seeking refuge from the heat. We rushed and found Kabaddi reeling in shock and bleeding. There was no whistling, forget being able to get up and run in his kabaddi style. He was immediately shifted to the veterinary hospital and he died within a fortnight. He paid the price of someone's hurry to not even bother about a dog sleeping and seeking refuge under his car in this heat. Countless precious souls like our Kabaddi are mowed down everyday. Do your part, check under the car once and pause after ignition to allow the animal sleeping beneath or on the wheels to escape safely. Give animals a brake.
